PURPOSE:To prevent a grinding apparatus for inserting a lens into an eye glass frame from working miss due to forgetting the selection of sequence by automatically selecting the sequence of direct profiling system and template system on the basis of the detecting signal of the template. CONSTITUTION:When template worked grinding is carried out by a lens grinding apparatus having both sequences of direct profiling sequence for direct profiling of a workpiece lens and profiling sequence for grinding according to a template on the shape data of a lens frame, an operator mount the template SP on a template holding pin of a lens rotating shaft 28. Next, a stopper lever 712 is rotated clockwise until a notch 712a abuts against a central pin 28a. When a pin 715 comes in the position of a slot 711, a shaft 714 is moved in the direction of arrow 716 by the tension of a spring 718. By the movement of the shaft 714 is turned on a micriswitch 720 with a tapered portion 713 so that a calculation control circuit can automatically receive the command of template working.
