The present invention relates to an apparatus for periodically and automatically throwing tennis balls. This apparatus is characterised in that the propulsion assembly 11 comprises three throwing wheels, namely a vertical upper wheel 12 and two lower wheels 13, 14, the respective median planes P2, P3, P4 of the three wheels 12, 13, 14 being arranged at 120 DEG with respect to one another and intersecting along the throwing axis xx' of the balls 4, the three throwing wheels 12, 13, 14 being arranged in such a manner that their axes are contained within the same vertical and transverse plane, and in that these wheels are located at a distance from one another such that their peripheral surfaces are tangential to a sphere having the diameter of the tennis balls 4 or a slightly smaller diameter. <IMAGE>
