PURPOSE:A dense sheetlike material, obtained by compounding and integrating a specific fibrous structure with a synthetic resin in the surface layer at a specified distance from the outermost surface of a leathery sheetlike material, having air-permeability and moisture permeability and improved surface strength and rich in feeling of fullness. CONSTITUTION:A web consisting of ultrafine fiber-forming fibers is needle punched to give a three-dimensionally entangled fibrous sheet, and high-speed fluid stream is then jetted thereon to entangle densely the fibers, dissolve partially components thereof and form ultrafine fibers therefrom. The resultant sheet is then pressed to smooth the surface thereof,and, as necessary dyed to apply a casein based resin in an amount of >=1g/m<2> expressed in terms of solid on the surface layer thereto and density the above-mentioned surface layer. The resultant leathery sheetlike material has >=0.2g/cm<3> apparent density of the ultrafine fibers in the surface layer up to 50mu distance from the outermost surface, <=0.5g/cm<3> apparent density of the synthetic resin ad air permeability and moisture permeability and improved surface strength and contains the ultrafine fibers entangled at <=200mu entangling distance thereof. |
