PURPOSE:To provide a nontoxic, inexpensive reversible heat sensitive material capable of exhibiting a reversible change in color tint accompanying a change in temp. and excellent chemical and thermal resistance, which comprises a zinc cobalt oxide-zinc metal oxide polycrystalline material having a specific compsn. CONSTITUTION:To a compd. of the formula I (wherein n is molar ratio) or to a compd. of the formula II (e.g.; cobalt green) is added a metal oxide (e.g.; WO3 or MoO3) as an additive at a molar ratio or n-0.5 or n. The mixture is heat treated, and an intended reversible heat-sensitive material is obtd. from the formed zinc cobalt oxide-zinc metal oxide polycrystalline material. The reversible heat-sensitive material exhibits a reversible change from blue color tone to gray color tone at about 150 deg.C, exhibits no heat history and a good temp. follow-up and has a sufficient repetition life. The title material is suited for use in temp. displays for various appliances such as cooking and heating appliances.
