PURPOSE:To provide a plate making roll for gravure printing reduced in its wt. and excellent in the close adhesiveness with a copper plating layer, by forming a cylinder from an Al-Mg-Si type aluminum alloy and mounting seal layers covering the boundary ends of a roll main body and the copper plating layer on the surface on said main body. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder/comprises an aluminum alloy consisting of Al-0.55%, Mg-0.45% and Si and copper plating layers 6 are present on the entire peripheral surface of a roll main body R and the outer peripheral parts of both end surfaces of said main body R. Seal layers 7 made of a synthetic resin are formed to both entire side surfaces of the roll main body R. Because the cylinder 1 is made of an aluminum alloy, said cylinder has a wt. almost 1/3 the wt. of iron and is extremely hard to corrode as compared with iron and has the good close adhesiveness with the plating layer when copper plating is applied to the surface of the cylinder 1. Further, the seal layers covering the boundary ends of the roll main body and the copper plating layer on the surface thereof prevents the penetration of air or a liquid. |
