To produce a roll tampon (24) with a fleece wrapping in a technically simple way and with the use of as little fleece material as possible, a fleece portion (10) having the length of a roll circumference is placed onto a longitudinal portion (6) of a sliver of wadding, in such a way that the longitudinal ends (11, 12) of the portion (6) of the sliver of wadding and the fleece portion (10) lie one on top of the other. The front end of the fleece portion (10) is fixed to the sliver of wadding lying underneath it by being calendered on, sealed on or the like. In the ready-wound roll, the rear fleece end (12) is fixed to the fleece material and wadding material lying underneath it by raising the nap, by sealing or by adhesive bonding (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
