PURPOSE:To obtain the titled thin film magnetic head having an excellent traveling characteristic by providing a recessed and a protruded part as a detent, sticking a substrate and a protective plate to each other so that a clearance is formed between both sliding surfaces and then filling the clearance from the sliding surface side of the thin film magnetic head with an interlayer material formed by sputtering, vapor deposition, etc. CONSTITUTION:A recessed and a protruded part 12 as a detent are provided to a head chip 8 and a protective plate 9 and the positional relation between the head chip 8 and the protective plate 9 is not changed even when the adhesive layer absorbs moisture and expands. Since the head chip 8 and the protective plate 9 are stuck to each other so that a clearance 13 is formed on the sliding surface side 8a, an adhesive layer 7 is not exposed on the sliding surface. After the protective plate 9 is stuck to form the clearance 13, a protective layer 10 of SiO2, Al2O3, etc., is formed by sputtering, vapor deposition, etc., in the direction as shown by the arrow 11 to fill the clearance 13. Consequently, the clogging of the clearance with the binder and magnetic powder of a magnetic recording medium is prevented. The sliding surface is then specularly finished by lapping, etc. A magnetic head with less spacing loss and having an excellent raveling characteristic can thus be obtained. |
