In an annular combustion engine 10, comprising an engine housing 12, at least one annular working chamber with at least one spark plug, one piston shaft 40 with at least one working piston 62, which can perform a pendulum movement in the annular working chamber, an air or combustion mixture feed device and a power transmission by means of which the pendulum movement of the piston shaft 40 can be converted into a unidirectional rotary movement of an output shaft, it is proposed, in order to obtain the smallest possible overall size and optimum engine functioning, that the engine housing 12 in the area of a wall section 26, 28 defining the working chamber be divided, that a power transmission housing at least partially formed on an engine housing part 14, 16 be provided, and that scavenging port parts 66 be assigned to the air or combustion mixture feed device, which port parts are formed by the piston shaft 40 and sections of the engine housing and can be closed as a function of the position of the piston shaft.
