PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a tape by providing a means which scans laser beam around an axis having a specific tilt from the shaft of a drum on which the tape travels. CONSTITUTION:The rotatable drum 20 and a pressure roller 40 are provided and the optical tape 10 travels at right angles to the rotating shaft of the drum 20, so the tape 10 does not slide when the drum 20 is rotatable. The laser beam 1 emitted by a laser beam source 50 is shaped or collimated by an optical system 60, reflected by a mirror 70, and sent to a rotary head part 80. This rotary head part 80 is coupled with a head driving motor 30 and rotated to send the laser beam 1 slantingly on the tape 10. Consequently, deterioration in life due to wear is reduced and the reliability is improved.
