Long-term heat store which consists of a load-bearing concrete shell sunk into the ground and made from prefabricated segments. The segments are held by means of rings which are cast after the sinking operation. The internal insulation divides the storage contents into cylindrical zones which enable heat to be returned from outside inwards and enable the storage losses to be minimised in conjunction with a reduced outlay on insulant. <IMAGE>
