A protection cap for plants which grow heightwise and which are stayed by means of supports such as stakes, posts and the like, particularly tomato plants, comprises a tubular sheet provided with slot-like openings of which one end may be fixed to the stay and the other end to the ground. As known protection caps do not allow to regulate water penetration, the present protection cap is comprised of a tubular sheet (2) presenting scale-shaped or V slots (7). When said slots (7) are arranged in rows, the slots (7) of adjacent rows being offset with respect to each other, it is possible to open them by removing the sheet, either manually or during the growth of the plant. Due to the particular construction of the protection cap, the tongues (8) situated between the sides of the V slots or the scales of the scale-shaped slots bend over always outwardly. Depending on the way the sheet is used, that it to say whether the tongues or the scales are orientated upwardly or downwardly, the penetration of flowing water into the protection cap is prevented or the water is directed to the interior of the cap. |
