The use in pest control of 2-(1-indolinylmethyl)-imidazolines of the formula I (I) or salts thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen or C1-C12-alkyl, R2 and R2a independently of one another are each hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, or together are C2-C4-alkylene, and R3 and R4 independently of one another are each hydrogen, halogen or C1-C3-alkoxy, or C1-C4-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen. There are also described the compounds of the formula Ia (Ia) wherein R1' is hydrogen or C1-C12-alkyl, R2' and R2a' independently of one another are each hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, or together are C2-C4-alkylene, R3' is hydrogen, halogen or C1-C3-alkoxy, or C1-C4-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, and R4' is halogen or C1-C3-alkoxy, or C1-C4-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, or R3' is halogen or C1-C3-alkoxy, or C1-C4-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, and R4' is hydrogen, halogen or C1-C3-alkoxy, or C1-C4-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, and processes for producing these compounds.
