Method for carrying out immunological determinations

A method for determining an immunological component contained in a sample is described. This entails a liquid crystal solution being prepared with liquid crystal molecules on which a specific binding partner for the component to be determined is immobilised, the liquid crystal solution being mixed with the sample in a reaction vessel, an electric field being applied via transparent electrodes to opposite sides of the reaction vessel, linearly polarised light being directed at the reaction vessel, and the linearly polarised light passing through the reaction vessel being measured directly or via an analyser in order to determine the concentration of the component to be determined in the sample in accordance with the orientation of the liquid crystals.
