摘要 |
A method of preparing an ethylenically unsaturated ester reaction product comprises: (a) admixing an epoxy-functional compound, especially a polyepoxide, with an alpha, beta-monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, like acrylic acid, in the presence of a catalytic amount of a tertiary amine adduct of an aliphatic or aromatic amine having at least one amino hydrogen atom, like diethylamine, with (i) an ethylenically unsaturated compound whose ethylenic bond is polarized and is capable of undergoing a Michael-type addition reaction, or (ii) an epoxide compound; and (b) maintaining this admixture at reaction temperature until the desired proportion of the acid is consumed in an esterification reaction. Radiation-curable coating compositions containing the resulting ester and tertiary amine catalyst have improved odor, and ultraviolet curable compositions containing the same cure more rapidly and the coatings do not contain the typical amine odor. |
