PURPOSE:To perform clearing operation by simple constitution without transferring clear data by providing a selecting circuit and a write data register which is set and reset with a reset signal in the clearing operation and fixed to a constant value. CONSTITUTION:A refresh time counter 10 which is driven with a carry of a refresh address counter 7, a multiplex circuit 11 which selects a column address or a memory clear address, and a multiplex circuit 12 which selects the address of an address register 5 are provided. Then, a set FF and a reset FF are used as a write data register and when the write data register are reset, its contents are made to satisfy ECC codes. Consequently, a memory device is cleared at a high speed by the simple circuit constitution without transferring any clear data.
