PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily control the thickness of a film in the lateral direction of a strip in reduced equipment cost, by inclining the axis of a squeeze roll in accordance with the bending of said roll. CONSTITUTION:An excessive coating solution is adhered to a running strip 10 from sprays 2 arranged above and below said strip 10 and the excessive solution is removed by a pair of upper and lower squeeze rolls 14A, 14B and the formed coating films are dried and baked in a catenary type baking furnace 16. In this process, the adjustment of a film thickness as a whole is performed by using load detectors 22A, 22B and press-down force control motors 20A, 20B so that the average value of all of film thicknesses detected by film thickness detectors 28A-28C is made constant. Further, the control of the film thickness in the lateral direction corresponding to the difference between the film thickness at the central part and the average film thickness at the edge parts is performed by inclining the axis of the upper squeeze roll 14A to the horizontal direction by chock position determining motors 26A, 26B.
