A cell (6) for measuring ionic concentration in blood flowing in a blood line (4) is fitted over a hole in the blood line with the interior of the cell separated from the interior of the blood line by a semi permeable membrane (5). The ionic species diffuses into the cell where its concentration is measured, without interrupting the blood flow and without danger of deposition of larger blood components on the sensitive electrodes within the cell.
