PURPOSE:To aim at reducing the occupying area of installation of a billet conveyor device and at enhancing the safety thereof, by providing a vertically movable clamper to a carrier on a high level rail extended to a billet supply position, and by arranging a lifter onto which a vertically movable container is loaded, below the high level rail. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of lifters 6 each having a container 28 which is set on a carrier bed 24 that is adapted to be elevated by a pantograph 25, and on when several billets B are heaped up, are laid below a high level rail way 2 extending from the position of a chute 1. A vertically movable clamper 5 is attached to a carrier 4 travelable along the high level rail 2. Fingers on stationary and movable arms 15, 16 of the clamper 5 select and grasp the top most billet B, and then convey it toward the chute 1 for supply. With this arrangement, it is possible to reduce the occupying area of installation of the billet conveyer device, and therefore to promote the selection and transfer of billets. Further, it is possible to mechanize the transfer and return of the container so that the safety of the conveyer device may be enhanced.
