摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight steering wheel core material having a sufficiently high stiffness and strength by a method wherein fiber bundles, which are made of continuous lints and are impregnated with a resin, are used for the core material. CONSTITUTION:A steering wheel core material 1 is one obtainable by the following method: fiber bundles, which are made of continuous lints and are impregnated with a resin, are repeatedly wound around a boss part 3, which is the center of the core material, and a molding is performed in such a way that a steering wheel core material; which consists of the boss part 3, a ring part 2, which is the outer periphery of the core material, and a spoke part 4, which links the ring part 2 with the boss part 3; is formed. In the boss part 3, fiber bundles 5 impregnated with a resin are wound around a boss fitting 6, which is used for fitting the boss part 3 into the steering wheel shaft. The spoke part 4 is disposed in tension in such a way that two groups of the fiber bundles 5 and 5 impregnated with the resin are respectively branched from the mutually adjacent two places in the ring part 2 on each side of both sides of the right and left of the core material, are converged in the vicinities of the boss part 3 and are turned into one bundle. Moreover, after the fiber bundles are wound, each group of the fiber bundles 5 are bundled by tying fittings 8. By this way, the lightweight steering wheel core material having a very high strength and stiffness can be obtained.
