PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer printer wherein a transfer ribbon take-up mechanism is operated only when a replaceable cassette with a transfer ribbon enclosed therein is mounted. CONSTITUTION:At non-recording time (indicated by dotted lines), a thermal head 10 is turned away from a recording paper, and the tip 46 of an operating arm 46 is pushed by the head 10 to be turned clockwise. As a result, the arm 46 is moved as indicated by dotted lines, and an idler gear 42 is separated from a gear 41. Therefore, an idler gear 43 and a take-up gear 44 not rotated, and a take-up spool is not rotated. Where the transfer ribbon cassette is not mounted, namely, when recording on a thermal recording paper, a projection 48 of an operating lever 47 is moved upward, and the rear end 47b of the lever 47 is depressed downward, and the rear end 47b of the lever 47 is depressed downward, whereby the dotted-line condition is maintained, so that the take-up spool is not rotated, as at non-recording time. |
