PURPOSE:To rapidly form a slag forming agent into slag at low cost by forming a passage which is provided to the electrode of an arc process and opened at the lower end of the electrode and supplying the slag forming agent onto molten steel through the passage. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 10 piercing through the furnace cover 8 of a ladle 2 is immersed in slag 6 on molten steel 4 in the ladle 2, electric arc is generated between the electrode 10 and the molten steel 4 to heat the molten steel 4, an inert gas such as Ar is blown in from a porous plug 24 at the bottom of the ladle 2 to agitate the molten steel 4 and the molten steel 4 is refined. In this arc process, a passage 12 is formed in the electrode 10 and opened at the lower end. A powdery slag forming agent is supplied from a hopper 18, transported by a carrier gas such as Ar and discharged onto the molten steel 4 through a pipe 16, a hose 14 and the passage 12. The slag forming agent is melted and slagged by the heat of the arc and the molten steel and the molten steel 4 can be efficiently desulfurized and refined. |
