The cross beam system connects the body sides (1,2), and has means for firmly hooking and supporting a container from an upper part of the handling vehicle. The body sides have telescopic leg structures which can move upwards and downwards, enabling the body sides and cross beam system to be raised and lowered between a level above normal height of a container loaded on a lorry and one for setting down the container on the ground. Two of the vehicle wheels (6) are steerable, and are connected via a cross beam component (10,11) fitted in a relatively low part of the vehicle. They can be made to move separately, coupled for forward movement of the vehicle, and pivoted outwards and forwards to free the vehicle both forwards and backwards. The cross beam component (10,11) has on its first beam free end a drop-over stirrup (13) into which the free end of the other beam (11) can be pushed and secured by through lock pins (14). Guide braces (22,24) work with the two beams, and can be pivoted outwards at the same time as them. |
