PURPOSE:In producing the titled compound by reacting a 2-t-butylphenol with an allyl halide, to obtain the aimed compound selectively by using an excess amount of the allyl halide and an alkali metallic hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:A 2-t-butyl phenol is reacted with an excess amount (>=1mol, preferably, 1.5-10mol, especially 2-5mol based on 1mol of the raw material of an allyl halide at 20-150 deg.C, preferably 30-120 deg.C at normal pressure -30kg/cm<2> in the presence of 0.1-3mol, preferably 0.5-2mol based on 1mol phenol raw material of an alkali metallic hydroxide, especially preferably by adding successively or continuously the alkali metallic hydroxide to control a molar ratio of the alkali metallic hydroxide to the unreacted phenol raw material in the reaction of 0.5-1.5, to give selectively the aimed compound. |
