<p>The installation consists of a container with an encasing piece 3, a bottom element 4 and an upper piece 5 for housing the fuel rods 2 preferably based on two fuel elements 27 which are adjacent in as compact a bundle as possible, preferably in a compact hexagonal bundle, and also a sealing device which surrounds the container 6, 7, 8, 38, 39, 40 and a guide means for the insertion of the fuel rods removed from the fuel element 27 in the sealing device. The container and the sealing device have been configured in such a manner that the bottom element 4 of the container may be uncoupled from it and so that it may be coupled onto the sealing device. The guide means have been configured in the manner of a guide supplement 23, 42 to 47 which can be inserted into and removed from the sealing device. The sealing device has tightening means 9, 10, 11 which compress together the fuel rods inserted in as compact a bundle as possible, in such a manner that, after the jamming-on of the encasing piece of the container 3 and the coupling of its bottom element 4, the bundle of fuel rods, which is seated compactly, which is located in the container, may be removed from the sealing device.
