The mechanism for packing objects stacked (3) on a board (2) or pallet comprises a carrier (6) with vertically movable supply roll (7) of flexible material (4). The carrier is rotatable to wrap this material around the stack (3). A covering sheet (9) is applied from a roll (11) to the upper surface (8) of the stack. The downwardly overhanging edge portions (10) of this sheet are covered by the wrapping. Two pairs of swivel arms (26,27) have grippers (28,29) which extend along two opposite sides of the stack, one pair (26) gripping the front edge (30) and the other (27) the rear edge of the cover sheet.
