PURPOSE:To prevent any wrong operation from occurring as well as to improve safety, by installing a backward checking mechanism which disables any selective operation of a backward high speed position of an auxiliary gearshift in each transfer attitude, in case of a device whose operating handle is made transferable in front and in the rear. CONSTITUTION:In the state that a handle 2, free of rotation around a shaft 7 and transferable in front and in the rear, to be installed in an upper part of a traveling machine body 1 is transferred, for example, to an A position, an eccentric cam 30 presses a pin 44 to the outside against a spring 46, making a checking piece 41 move to the side opposed to an H-shaped shifting guide hole 3. In this state, when an auxiliary gearshift lever 9 is operated in a B direction and a high speed gear is engaged with the specified gear, the lever 9 exists in a resilient return position by a spring 45, making the guide hole 3 at the left come into a state of being closed. And, in this state, even if a gearshift lever 8 is operated, a regulating projection 35 is hindered by a checking piece 41 whereby engagement of a backward gear to the specified gear will not be performed, therefore backward high speed shifting comes to be checked in consequence.
