<p>Nuclear fuel rod (1) including a tubular cladding (3) formed from a zirconium-based alloy which has a thin film (17, 27) of nickel metal or a nickel base zirconium alloy, of a thickness of from 0.01 to 5 microns, distributed over from 1-40 percent of the area of its internal surface (21). The dispersed film (17, 27) provides multiple sites for hydride transport from the interior of the nuclear fuel rod (1).</p> |
