PURPOSE:To enable a simple and low-cost structure to be obtained by providing a device for converting a detecting signal to some numerical values through its return to an origin is unnecessary. CONSTITUTION:Coarse resolvers RSC, fine resolvers RSF is charge of the lower- order bits, higher-order bits of the numerical data of a rotational angle, respectively, data circuits R/D for converting the output of the resolvers RSC and RSF to absolute position data, a mixing circuit MiX, an output buffer circuit BA an pulse circuits R/P are provided. Further, positioning devices are provided with counters for presetting the output value of the circuit BA when a power supply is turned on and counting the output of the circuits R/P after an operation is started. When the power supply is turned on, the absolute positions of shafts are read out from the circuit BA to be preset to the counters of the shafts in the positioning devices and, after the operation is started, the detecting signals of the resolvers RSF for the shafts are converted to incremental pulses, which are added to the counter of the shafts. Therefore, the same position detection as an absolute system is possible even if the operation of return to an origin is not conducted when the power supply is turned on.
