NEW MATERIAL:A 5-fluoroarachidonic acid derivative shown by the formula I (R<1> is H or monohydric alcohol residue; R<2> is 3-7C alkyl; group shown by the formula II is double or triple bond) or its nontoxic salt when R<1> is H. EXAMPLE:Methyl 5-fluoroarachidonate. USE:An inhibitor against biosynthesis of leukotrienes. PREPARATION:A novel fluoroaldehyde shown by the formula III (R<3> is R<1> except H) is reacted with a substance obtained by treating a Wittig reagent such as a compound shown by the formula IV (R<4> is alkyl, aryl or aralkyl), etc., containing a hydrocarbon group shown by the formula V, with a strong base, to give a compound shown by the formula I when R<1> is R<3>. This compound is hydrolyzed to give a compound shown by the formula I when R<1> is H.
