A support for the cover of an electric arc furnace. The cover 2 of a furnace vessel 1 may be raised and lowered and moved laterally by a support including a main cantilevered beam 6 and an upper beam 17 to which the cover is connected by tie rods 11. The beam 17 may be raised and lowered by rams 15 mounted within the beam 6. A locking rod 18 is connected with the beam 17 and engages with a socket 19 to prevent rotation of the support about a shaft 20 when the cover is resting on a vessel. Two parallel pairs of beams 6 and 17 are preferably provided, as is electrical insulation to prevent currents flowing in the support structure. <IMAGE> |
