NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [X is halogen; Y is CH or N; n is 0-1; R is halogen, lower alkoxy, unsaturated alkyloxy, thioacetic acid residue, or lower alkyl thioacetate residue). EXAMPLE:N-(3,5-dichloro-4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-chloro-nicotinic acid amide. USE:It has immunoregulating action or PCA-suppressing action, and is useful as a remedy for arthrorheumatism, autoimmune diseases, allergic diseases, asthma, cancer, etc. It is useful also as an agricultural fungicide. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the 4-amino-2,6-dihalogenophenol of formula II with the reactive carboxylic acid derivative of formula III in a solvent (e.g. tetrahydrofuran) or without using a solvent, in the presence or absence of a base (e.g. triethylamine) or dehydration agent (e.g. N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide) at -10-+300 deg.C.
