PURPOSE:To correspond the tape running quantity to hour/minute/second display with optional tape length and thickness by measuring the turning period of each reel at winding and supply sides at each replacement of a tape so as to obtain a prescribed parameter. CONSTITUTION:When a cassette tape is loaded, a system controller 23 stores the information of tape thickness in a memory of a reel processor 26 by a system controller 23. Then the turning period of the supply and winding reels 11, 12 of the processor 26 is obtained based on a pulse from rotary detectors 24, 25 the square sum of the both is obtained to obtain a short period pulse contact J0 and a long period pulse constant K0. Then the processor 26 calculates a prescribed value Sref based on the constants J0, K0. A counter section 27 adds the constants J0, K0 from the processor 26 every time a pulse is applied from the detectors 24, 25 and when the sum exceeds the Sref, increment for one second is applied so as to allow a display device 28 to display the hour/ minute/second corresponding to the tape running quantity.
