<p>Plastics substrates are printed with a durable, water-resistant print by passing the substrate, which is mounted on a paper carrier, to a suitable printing machine using a cassette having a ribbon loaded with an acid ink. The inside of the casette may be provided with an acid-resistant layer e.g. of Cr, Zn or Cu. The acid ink used is e.g. Ink Tech Type 8152 'Quick Dry Label Ink' (RTM). Pref. the ink contains a small amt. of the monomer of the plastic substrate to be printed so that the print causes slight dissolution of the substrate to improve the adhesion of the print to the substrate.</p> |
