PURPOSE:In subjecting an alcohol to ring opening and addition to an epoxide, to obtain selectively a beta-alkoxy alcohol, by using a thermal condensation product of a specific organotin compound and a specific phosphoric acid totally or partially alkyl ester as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol is subjected to ring formation and addition to an epoxide by the use of a thermal condensation product of an organotin compound selected from compounds shown by the formula I - formula V [R is 1-12C hydrocarbon group which may containing substituent group; X is H, halogen, OH, etc.; a is 1-4 integer; at least one R' is R, and the other is X; X' is CO3, PO4, polybasic carboxylic acid, etc.; c is >1 number corresponding to basicity of X'; d is 1 (e=3/2) or 2 (e=1); compound shown by the formula III and com pound shown by the formula I can form complex; f is positive number; L and L' are O or COO (M and C are bonded); M is hydrocarbon group; g is number >1] and a phosphoric acid totally or partially alkyl ester selected from com pound shown by the formula VI and formula VII as a catalyst, to give a beta- alkoxy alcohol in high yield easily. |
