PURPOSE:A treating and preventing agent for peptics ulcer, containing a specific phenyl derivative derived from a water-soluble fraction originating from cinnamon as an active constituent and having remarkable antitumor action with low toxicity. CONSTITUTION:A treating and preventing agent for peptics ulcer containing a phenyl derivative expressed by formula I (R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are alkyl, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, etc.; R<4> is H, lower alkyl, acyl, etc.) as an active constituent. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by hydrolyzing a compound expressed by formula II prepared by fractionation from a water-soluble fraction originating from cinnamon, and reacting the resultant compound expressed by formula III with a compound expressed by the formula R<4>-Br. The above- mentioned compound has low toxicity and improved abntitumor activity. The dose thereof is preferably 0.1-1.5mg/day.
