PURPOSE:To realize a metal vapor discharge lamp of high start-up performance with both short breakdown time and short shift time to arc discharge, by applying higher-voltage lower-repetition rate pulses between electrodes in the earlier period for starting up a discharge lamp then applying there lower-voltage higher- repetition rate pulses. CONSTITUTION:With a commercial A.C. power supply applied to the circuit, a voltage wave form including higher-voltage lower-repetition rate voltage pulses appears across terminals A, B at first, since a parallel compound resistance value of current limiting resistances 5a, 5b of, for instance, 400OMEGA and 1,200OMEGA respectively is 300OMEGA. An insulation breakdown between electrodes of a light emitting tube is caused by these pulses first, then, after about 10sec a heat sensitive switch 6 is let off by self heating up of the current limiting resistance 5a. Therefore, only the current limiting resistance 5b remains for a lighting tube 7, applying a voltage waveform including higher-voltage lower- repetition rate voltage pulses between electrodes of the light emitting tube for a rapid shift to arc discharge. |
