PURPOSE:To manufacture a diamond coated sintered hard alloy capable of cutting a light alloy at a high speed by depositing a diamond film of a specified thickness on the surface of a sintered hard alloy as a base material from a vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:This diamond coated sintered hard alloy is composed of a sintered hard alloy as a base material and a diamond coating film of 0.1-1.0mum thickness deposited on the surface of the base material from a vapor phase. The sintered hard alloy used as the base material is obtd. by bonding one or more kinds of metallic elements selected among the group IVa, Va and VIa transition metals in the periodic table and one or more kinds of compounds consisting of one or more kinds of nonmetallic elements selected among C, N and O with one or more kins of metallic elements selected among Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo and W. The diamond coated sintered hard alloy does not cause the stripping of the diamond coating film during the high-speed cutting of a soft alloy or the like and has superior strength and flank wear resistance. |
