PURPOSE:To measure the swing speed of a bat accurately and quantitatively by counting the passing time of the bat between both sensors which are arranged horizontally at a constant distance by using sensor signals of both sensors. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd photosensor 12 composed of a pair of a light emitting element and a photodetecting element is arranged at the constant distance horizontally from the 1st photosensor 9. Then, the bat swung by a trainer crosses the optical axis of the sensor 9 to cut off its light and then the 1st counter 13 begins to count reference pulses from a pulse generator 14. Then, the bat crosses the optical axis of the sensor 12 in a series of bat swinging to cut off its light and the sensor 12 outputs a counting stop signal to the counter 13. The counter 13 outputs the number counted so far to an arithmetic circuit 15. The circuit 15 calculates the speed of the bat from the number of pulses and the distance between the sensors 9 and 12 and displays it on a display device 17. The 2nd counter 16 counts the number of output signals of the sensor 9, i,e. the number of times of the swinging and displays it on the display device 17.
