PURPOSE:To improve roughing efficiency, finishing accuracy, and cutting process switching speed by so arranging cuter liquid reservoirs for finishing as to be brought into contact with or as to be surrounded by the reservoirs at a lower temperature side of first cutting liquid or second cutting liquid reservoirs for roughing. CONSTITUTION:In roughing with a cut electric wire discharge machining unit, a cutting liquid is supplied from a rough cutting liquid supply system, that is, a dirty liquid reservoir 1 thru a clean liquid reservoir 7, and the comparison resistance of the liquid is adjusted less then 10<5>OMEGAcm or to approximately 10<4>OMEGAcm usually. In the next step, finishing follows immediately after roughing, and not only is adjusted a load- dispatching device to so propery change an electric power condition as to lessen electric discharge energy below that in roughing, but also wire tension is stronbthened, the cutting liquid supply amount from the reservoir 13 in a cutting liquid supply system for finishing is so diminished as to improve cutting accuracy, and, in addition, the comparison resistance of the cutting liquid is raised to 10<5>OMEGAcm or more. Thus, each process is so improved in efficiency and rationality that roughing may be efficiently performed in a short time, finishing may be exactly and accurately performed, and the cutting liquid for each process may, moreover, be switched quickly and readily.
