PURPOSE:To prevent the slip of rolls between rolling rolls and rolling material by measuring the torque of the rolling rolls to detect a lubricating condition and controlling the flow of a rolling mill lubricant so as to make uniform the lubrication. CONSTITUTION:The upper and lower work rolls 12A, 12B are separately driven by driving motors 16A, 16B. Driving currents 1A, 1B are detected by shunts 24A, 24B. Both currents are calculated in a comparator 26 and a torque difference TC of the upper and lower rolls is determined. The flow signals V1, V2 of the rolling mill lubricant at which the roll lubrication is made uniform is determined from the signal of the above-mentioned torque difference TC by the empirically patterned calculation in a rolling mill lubricant flow calculator 28. Said signals are outputted to control valves 30A, 30B which spray the lubricant at said flow rates. The roll slip is therefore prevented and the breakdown of the rolling material by the slip is prevented.
