PURPOSE:To eliminate a temp. difference in the transverse direction of a steel strip and to form the steel strip having good quality by heating both side faces of the roughly rolled steel strip which is coiled by burners provided to box side plates so that the heat strip is efficiently heated by the simple device. CONSTITUTION:A coil box 8 is disposed between a roughing mill and finishing mill and 1-plural pieces of gas burners 13 are attached to the gas burner attaching plates 12 thereof. After the roughly rolled steel strip is coiled in the box 8, both side faces of the roughly rolled steel are heated by the burners 13 during the time when the strip is subjected to finish rolling. Both side faces of the steel strip are therefore heated efficiently by the extremely simple device and the temp. difference between the central part and both side faces is eliminated, by which the formation of the rolled steel strip having the good quality is made possible.
