PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a detector for position signal generation and to improve the precision of discrimination making for thickness abnormality by generating a position signal with the output signal of a thickness detecting means. CONSTITUTION:A thickness signal outputted by a converter 5 corresponding to the thickness of paper currency P is supplied to the 1st comparator 6 and an analog switch 8. The comparator 6 compares this thickness signal with the 1st level L1 for paper image signal generation to output a paper image signal to a position signal generating circuit 7. The circuit 7 generates a position signal and supplies it to a switch 8. The switch 8 turns on only while supplied with the position signal to supply the thickness signal from the converter 5 to the 2nd comparator 9. The comparator 9 is supplied with only the thickness signal corresponding to the specific area of the paper currency P. This comparator 9 compares this thickness signal with the 2nd level L2 for thickness abnormality discrimination making which is preset to decide the thickness abnormality of the paper currency P. |
