PURPOSE:To obtain a solution of ferric nitrate remarkably decreasing the generation of NOX, by dissolving iron in an aqueous solution of nitric acid added with a specific NH4NO3. CONSTITUTION:NH4NO3 is added to an aqueous solution of nitric acid of 30-70wt% concentration. The amount of the NH4NO3 is 0.2-1.5 equivalent based on the amount of iron to be dissolved. The mixed solution is maintained at 30-70 deg.C, added slowly with iron such as iron powder to preferentially proceed the reaction of formula. Iron is dissolved in the solution to give a solution of ferric nitrate suitable for magnetic ferrite, while suppressing the generation of NOX and the production of ferrous nitrate.
