SEPARATOR FOR STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To prevent possible performance drop of a battery caused by the elusion of a binder by making paper in a wet process with fibers mainly comprising alkali-containing silicate glass fibers and powder mainly comprising silica powder to make pore size fine by distributing powder particles in gaps between glass fibers and to connect each other with water-glass. CONSTITUTION:Paper is made in a wet process with fibers mainly comprising alkali-containing silicate glass fibers having a mean diameter of 1.0-5.0mum and powder mainly comprising silica powder having a relative surface are of 100m<2>/g or more. Since fibers are tangled each other and powder particles are distributed between fibers, the paper is used as a separator for storage battery. The amount of powder is 1-40wt% of the separator. Since silica powder is acid-proof and has affinity to the electrolyte, it increases the electrolyte absorbing ability of the separator and the performance of the battery by being distributed between fibers.
