Thin walled insulated tubes suitable for pressures of about 3200 Pa, are installed inside a shaft, with sections internally connected by barrel shaped connectors (6). Each connector is also thin walled, with grooves (8) around it, holding resilient sealing rings (7). These are compressed against the inner lining (4) of the tube sections, and seal the gap between the ends (11) of the sections, formed by channel section elements. At each gap, the sections are supported by a horizontal plate (13) projecting into the gap, carried by channels (1) of a supporting structure (2). The plate rests on an insulating ring (12) enclosed by an insulating collar (14).
