Portable appliance for fastening, to a conveyor belt, a series of joining staples carrying fastening clips arranged on standby. This appliance comprises, along an anvil 7 for folding over the tips of these clips, a comb 13 for the temporary immobilisation of the staples 1 to be fastened, a cover 22-23 provided with guidance openings being furthermore provided for guiding the fastening clips when they are pushed in. The comb 13 for immobilising the staples 1 to be fastened is mounted so as to move on the top of the anvil 7 and is coupled to displacement means 17 allowing it to be displaced between an initial position in which the tips of the clips 3 are placed above inclined grooves 11 of a first zone 10 of the anvil, and a second position in which these same tips are located facing a second plane zone 12 of the anvil. The guiding cover for the fastening clips, for its part, is attached to the anvil, or to its support, by means of linking means 25 making it possible for it to be placed above the latter or to be moved away completely, in order to be able to proceed respectively with pushing in the clips and finally folding over their tips. <IMAGE>
