PURPOSE:To provide the titled catalyst consisting of a combination of specific three components, exhibiting high activity as a Ziegler catalyst for the polymerization of an olefin, and giving a polymer having excellent polymer characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The objective catalyst can be produced by combining (A) a solid composition consisting of (i) a product obtained by contacting a Mg dihalide, a titanium tetraalkoxide (or its polymer) and a polymeric silicon compound of formula I (R<1> is hydrocarbon residue), (ii) an acid halide compound and (iii) a liquid Ti compound (the atomic ratio to the Mg compound of (i) is 0.1-10) and/or an Si halide (the atomic ratio to the Mg compound of (i) is 0.1-10), wherein the molar ratio of the component (ii) to Ti is <0.1, with (B) an organic Al compound and (C) a heterocyclic compound having the principal skeleton of formula II (R<2> is hydrocarbon group; R<3>-R<6> are H or hydrocarbon group or two of them together form a ring; X is N or O).
