NEW MATERIAL:The spirooxazine compound of formula I [R<1>-R<7> are H, 1-2C alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or nitro; R<8>-R<14> are hydroxy, (substituted)amino, lower alkoxy, aralkoxy, aryloxy, H, lower alkyl, etc.]. EXAMPLE:1-[(2-Naphthyl)methyl]-3,3-dimethyl derivative of spiro[indoline-2,3'-[3 H]-naphtho[2,1-b](1,4)oxazine]. USE:Photochromic material for printing, optical instruments, recording material or clothes. It has high color-developing and quenching speed and excellent fatigue resistance and gives high color density at normal temperature. It has thermochromic properties as well. PREPARATION:The objective compound can be produced e.g. by (1) reacting the compound of formula II with the compound of formula III in anhydrous ethanol, (2) reacting the resultant compound of formula IV with a base such as triethylamine to obtain the compound of formula V, and (3) reacting the compound with alpha-nitroso-beta-naphthol. |
