PURPOSE:To enable the prevention of a fatal damage of a printing head by disposing a light source and a light-receiving element with printing paper set between them, and by stopping printing by a means of detecting the lateral end position of the printing paper. CONSTITUTION:When a power switch is made, an initial reset circuit 55 operates to turn the output OUT of a SEL function circuit 51 to be L, so as to make it impossible to receive printing data. When an SEL switch 54 is depressed, subsequently, the output OUT turns to be H. Thereby it is made possible to receive printing data, and then printing is started. When a printing head whereon a light-receiving element 42 is mounted runs near to the lateral end of printing paper 26, light from light sources 41 arranged in an array is detected, whereby the output OUT is turned to be L, printing being stopped automatically. In this way, a damage of the printing head can be prevented even when the printing is started with printing data having a content exceeding the width of printing paper. |
