PURPOSE:To attain the multiple functions of a pen type input device by recognizing >=1 characters to store the count value in a storage part for each of the recognized characters and setting the numerical data in response to the stored count value. CONSTITUTION:A display part 2 using a liquid crystal display element is provided on the upper side face of a case 1 and a mode key 3a, a memory call key 3b and an input key 3c are provided at the side part of the part 2. Thus a pen type input device is obtained. While a clear key 3d is set at the position corresponding to the first finger in a writing mode at a lower part in order to clear the input contents, etc. Then a ball pen core 4 serving as a writing tool is drawn out through an opening part 1a at the tip of the case 1. The core 4 is fixed to a main body 5 of the pen and held at the center part by a spring 6, and a semiconductor strain gauge 7 is attached to the spring 6 for detection of the writing pressure in the (x) and (y) directions. The gauge 7 is connected to an electronic circuit in the case 1 for recognition of plural characters. Thus the count value is stored in the storage part for each recognized character and the statistic calculation, etc. can be performed with addition of the numerical data corresponding to said count value.
